Offering Assessment Retakes

Introduction

Providing opportunities for assessment retakes can significantly enhance participant engagement, ensure fairness in the evaluation process, and accommodate unforeseen technical issues. This guide outlines the benefits of offering assessment retakes and provides step-by-step instructions for recruiters to initiate both full and partial retakes. By following these guidelines, recruiters can effectively manage assessment retake requests and create a positive participant experience.

Terminology

Before we dive into the details, let's clarify the terminology used in our platform. In Alooba, an assessment refers to the entire evaluation process, which consists of multiple tests. A test, on the other hand, refers to a specific section or part of the assessment. Also, we will refer to the test taker as a participant throughout this article. Now, let's explore the options for assessment retakes.

Why Retakes

Assessment retakes are beneficial in various situations, allowing participants to showcase their abilities without being penalized for technical issues. These issues may include power outages or other unforeseen circumstances that disrupt the participant's initial attempt. Retakes ensure fairness in the evaluation process and provide participants with a fresh opportunity to demonstrate their true potential.

Considerations

When offering assessment retakes, it's important to consider the following factors to ensure a smooth and effective process.

Previous Answers and Marks

Issuing a retake for any test(s) will discard all previous answers and marks for those specific test(s). It will appear as if the participant didn't attempt the test(s). Therefore, it's crucial to confirm with the participant their intention to reattempt the test(s) before initiating a retake.

Assessment Status

Issuing a partial retake will change the status of the assessment to "Incomplete". The participant will need to attempt all the test(s) for the status to be changed to "Completed".

Issuing a full retake will change the status of the assessment to "Opened Assessment", indicating that the participant has an opportunity to attempt all the test(s) again.

Hiring Status

When a retake is issued, if the participant's hiring status is 'Rejected,' it will be reset back to 'Not Yet Evaluated.' For participants with any other hiring status, their status will not be affected by the issuance of a retake.

Updated Questions

If the questions of a test have been changed since the participant's initial attempt, the participant attempting a retake will see the updated version of the test rather than the previous set of questions.

Issuing a Retake

Follow these step-by-step instructions to invite a participant for an assessment retake through the Participant Details page:

  1. Navigate to the Participant Details Page:
    • Log in to the platform and access the participant's profile.
  2. From the participant details page, click on the Request Retake button located in the upper right corner.

"Request Retake" button on the Participant Details page
  3. A popup window will appear, presenting the option to select the tests within the assessment for the participant to retake. Select all the tests to issue a full retake for a fresh start of the whole assessment.

  5. Click on the Confirm button... and, done!

Candidate's Experience

When a retake is triggered, the participant will receive an email notification informing them about the retake request. This email will contain a link to the assessment. The destination of the link depends on whether the retake is full or partial:

  • For a full retake, the link will redirect the participant to the first assessment instructions page, allowing them to start the entire assessment anew.
  • In the case of a partial retake, the link will take the participant to the test introduction page of the first test that needs to be reattempted. This allows the participant to start from where they left off, without having to redo all sections.

The retake email provides clear instructions to guide participants through the process, ensuring a smooth user experience.

Conclusion

By providing assessment retake opportunities, recruiters demonstrate their commitment to fairness and create an environment where participants can truly showcase their abilities. Following the step-by-step instructions and considering the best practices outlined in this guide, recruiters can effectively manage assessment retake requests, ensuring a positive participant experience.
